Speed Up Windows XP

July 24, 2011 | Author: | Posted in Software

Windows XP might be one of the most well established operating systems in the World, but the unfortunate fact is that this system is prone to running slowly. This is a big problem which even the most advanced XP computers are prone to – but fortunately, it’s actually a very simple problem to fix, if you know what to do. This tutorial is going to show you 3 simple steps you can use to make XP run a lot faster, even if you’re a beginner. Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1 – Clean Out Any Unwanted Applications – Programs / applications are extremely important for your PC, as they are what provide all the functionality your system has. Windows has been built on the back on its flexibility of being able to install many different applications… but this can also cause your system to run slower. This problem is especially true in XP, but can also occur in later versions of Windows, and is where your computer will actually run a lot of your installed applications in the “background” of your system. This is a big problem because it means your system essentially splits its focus and slows down. To fix this, you need to uninstall any unwanted applications, which can be done by clicking on Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs.

Step 2 – Remove Junk Files – Although junk files might seem like a trivial problem, they can actually cause a lot of issues for your PC. The problem is that junk files are continually blocking your system, and making it run considerably slower. The more specific issue here is that more junk files cause Windows to take much longer to load up, as it has to “index” them all. File indexing is where your PC looks through all the files on your hard drive and then remembers them, so it can quickly search for them. This means that if you have lots of downloads / files you don’t need, you will end up making your PC load a lot slower. To fix this, you need to be able to remove the files you don’t want from your computer.

Step 3 – Clean Out The Registry – This is a very important step for most XP users because the “registry” is such an important part of your system. It’s basically a central database for all the settings & options for your PC, with everything from your desktop wallpaper, latest emails and even your passwords being kept inside it. It’s best described as being like the “virtual memory” for your system, and is one of the most important parts of the entire Windows system.

Unfortunately, the registry is also one of the biggest problems for Windows, as it will continually save many of its files in the wrong way, causing your system to run slower as it’s unable to read the files it needs to run. This is actually one of the biggest problems for XP, and is continually the cause of Windows running slow, and fortunately, it’s actually very easy to fix. The way to fix this problem is to use a ‘registry cleaner’ to scan through your system and repair any damaged registry settings that are making your PC run slow. To use one of these tools, you should look to download one from the Internet & then install it on your PC, where it will then scan your system and fix the damaged settings that are on it.
