Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

July 4, 2011 | Author: | Posted in Careers

“Personal Injury Protection” is coverage acquired thru your auto insurance.

PIP covers doctor’s bills and eighty percent of lost salary because of injuries experienced in a vehicle accident. Texas law provides that PIP must be provided in the minimum quantity of $2,500 per individual, but you can get more coverage if you want. PIP will cover you as well as any passengers in your auto. In Texas, PIP is instantly included in any private auto policy unless the cover is explicitly confounded in writing. Similarly , even though PIP doesn’t appear on your policy, you’ll have the minimum coverage ( $2,500 per individual ) unless your insurer can produce a signed written refusal of the PIP coverage.

Nevertheless don’t mistake PIP for “Medical Payments” coverage ( sometimes called “Med-Pay” ). On the surface, Med-Pay and PIP look similar. But there’s 1 big difference. With Med-Pay, your insurance firm has the right of compensation if you receive a new settlement. PIP has no such right of compensation. For instance, let’s assume you are wounded in an auto accident which is the other driver’s fault. If you have medical bills of $2,000, your PIP coverage will repay you for those hospital bills. You may then submit those self same hospital charges to the other driver’s insurance firm. If the other insurance firm consents to pay you a settlement ( for instance, $4,000 ), then you wouldn’t have to repay the PIP benefits that you formerly picked up from your insurance firm. Nevertheless if you had Med-Pay coverage rather than PIP, then you would reimburse your insurer the $2,000 you formerly picked up in Med-Pay benefits. That is the reason why many insurance corporations and their agents have a tendency to push Med-Pay coverage rather than PIP.

Nothing can be more devastating to someone or their family than a significant private death of a friend. You suffer physically, financially, and emotionally, while everything you have worked for in your life crumbles before your eyes.
