Latest Hindi films, of late, are experimenting with different comedic genres. One can find various genres in comedies like deadpan comedy, blue comedy, black comedy, physical comedy and spoof. Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Luck by Chance’ with Farhan Akhtar as the main character is one of the recent black comedy films. ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’ with Abhay Deol is another black comedy which was praised by the critics. ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’, starring Om Puri and Satish Shah is another black comedy film liked by many.
Examples for blue comedy films are ‘Dostana’ and ‘Masti’ which have double implicit meanings and besmirching undertones. Comedy films like these made references to homosexuality and gay culture, which were met with applause and criticism.
